BirdLife International treibt die Etablierung von so genannten
"Species Conservation Teams" für alle weltweit bedrohten Vogelarten,
die regelmäßig in Europa vorkommen voran. Diese Gruppierungen sind
ein loser Zusammenschluss von Experten aus allen Ländern des Verbreitungsgebietes
der jeweiligen Art. Wichtigstes Ziel der Species Conservation Teams
ist es, die internationale Zusammenarbeit zu erleichtern und den
Informationsaustaustausch im Zusammenhang mit der Umsetzung von
Maßnahmen der BirdLife International Arten-Aktionspläne zu koordinieren.
Die Idee, ein "Great Bustard Conservation Team (GBCT)" aufzubauen,
wurde während des Internationalen Workshops "Bustard Conservation
in Europe in the last 15 Years - current trends, best practice and
future priorities" (Lissabon (P), 23. - 25. November 2005), geboren.
Es wird derzeit geleitet von Paul Goriup (UK) unter der Mithilfe
der beiden "Mitteleuropäischen Trappenkoordinatoren" Szabolcs Nagy
(Niederlande) und Rainer Raab (Österreich).
